1.Sagarika Ghatge and Zaheer Khan
Bollywood actress Sagarika Ghatge got hitched to former Indian cricketer and pace bowler Zaheer Khan on 23 November 2017. The Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge marriage was a low key affair. Sagarika who appeared in Bollywood films like ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Fox’ and ‘Irada’ was dating Zaheer for a while before making their relationship public. Zaheer retired from cricket in 2014 after appearing in 92 Tests, 200 ODI’s and 17 T20’s for India but continues to play in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils.
2. Hazel Keech and Yuvraj Singh
Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actress Hazel Keech who tied the knot on November 30 in Chandigarh as per Sikh rituals. Yuvraj and Hazel got engaged last year (2015) on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. The two exchanged the rings on a beach in Bali.
Giving details about his love story Yuvraj revealed that for the first three years, he kept trying to get her to meet him for coffee. She would agree every time he messaged her, but on the appointed day, she would switch off her phone and not turn up. It was only after they spent some time together, Hazel accepted Yuvi’s proposal. As soon as she said a yes to Yuvraj, he met her parents to make their relationship official.
3. Geeta Basra and Harbhajan Singh
It was a love at first sight for Harabhajan. “I saw her in a song – Woh Ajnabee – when I was playing county cricket in London. I told my friend, ‘I want to meet this girl.” Geeta, who has acted in several Hindi and Punjabi films, has had a five years of courtship with Harbhajan before they took the marital plunge. Harbhajan and Geeta tied the knot on October 29 2015 in Jalandhar, Punjab. They have a daughter, Hinaya Heer Plaha, born on July 27, 2016 in Portsmouth, Hampshire.
4. Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli
It was a destination wedding for the quintessential celeb couple, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli on 11 December, 2017. Anushka Sharma becomes the 9th Bollywood actress to marry a cricketer. Doing so she joins the elite club of ‘Bollywood actresses who married cricketers’ or one could even say ‘Cricketer stars who married Bollywood actresses.’ Their marriage has put an end to all the speculation and rumours which were floating in the media for a few years.
5. Sangeeta Bijlani and Mohammad Azharuddin
In 1994, Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin was rumored to be having an extra marital affair with Sangeeta Bijlani. Their relationship created a huge scandal because Azhar was married when he started seeing Sangeeta. He even decided to divorce his wife of eight years, Naureen, to marry Bijli. Despite all the obstacles they faced, Sangeeta and Azhar wed in 1996. The couple got separated after 14 years of marriage. Sangeeta was previously dating Bollywood superstar before getting married with Azharuddin. Azhar’s close proximity to badminton star Jwala Gutta was alleged to be the reason behind the split.
6. Reena Roy and Mohsin Khan
A fabulous Hindi Bollywood film star Reena Roy fall in love with Pakistani cricketer Mohsin khan, the two even married. Mohsin Khan looked in the success of his wife in the Bollywood film industry as a potential entry for himself, as he expected to make a name for himself as a film star in India. The two also have a lovely daughter but unfortunately their marriage did not last long and ended in divorce.
7. Neena Gupta and Sir Vivian Richards
Bollywood actress Neena Gupta was in a relationship with former West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards in the 1980s. Though Richards and Neena were not married, as Sir Vivian was already a much married man, they never thought there was any need to keep their relationship under wraps either. Neena got pregnant and defied the societal norms by giving birth to the child before marriage. The two continue to be doting parents to their child Masaba, a fashion designer.
8. Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi
When the youngest captain of Indian cricket team, Mr. Pataudi met the bold and beautiful Bollywood actor, Sharmila, he didn’t know much about the film industry. For the next four years he tried to woo her by sending roses, letters and even a refrigerator(yup, you read that correctly!). She fell for his sense of humor and finally agreed to date him. Mansoor Ali Khan proposed to Sharmila Tagore on the streets of Paris!
To marry Nawab, Sharmila converted to Islam and became Ayesha Sultana. She left Bollywood for a while, but returned shortly. December 27, 1969, the lovebirds got married and the wedding was a truly royal affair.
